Director’s Newsletter – Winter 2019

Dear Ambrit Parents,

As we move closer to our final day of school for 2019 I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a great holiday season and a happy new year.

It has been as usual quite a busy period with recitals, trips and in school visits. There is a lot happening at Ambrit and we want to share some of it with you.

I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Kind regards,
Giovanni Piccolo

Winter Bazaar

Winter Recitals have begun! That means the annual Winter Bazaar is just days away on December 17th and our traditional Giving Tree initiative is ready to go. If you time to spare, consider volunteering your time to help with the Bazaar. You can also help by donating some baked goods which will be sold to raise funds for the refugees.

We thank you in advance for your help.

Adventure Playground Use Guidelines

The Adventure playground is open for Ambrit families to use (weather permitting) each day after school from 3:45-4:30 pm.

Children must be collected after school at 3:30 pm by a parent or caregiver. At 3:45 pm, children are allowed to use the Adventure playground under the supervision of the parent or caregiver.

An Ambrit staff member will be on duty on the Adventure playground from 3:45 pm-4:30 pm for safety reasons only. The staff member is not in charge of supervising the children. If the staff member notices children not following playground rules, they will refer the child to the parent or caregiver. If a child repeatedly does not follow playground rules, they will be asked to leave the playground.

Playground Rules
We play safely
We include others
We keep food off the safety mats and equipment
We use polite language

Due to safety reasons, children are not allowed to play soccer on the Adventure playground.

Save the Children

On December 6th grade 8 students involved in the MYP Community Project had the special opportunity to meet and listen to the President of Save the Children Italy, Claudio Tesauro. He spoke to students about The Save the Children Fund, commonly known as Save the Children that was established in the United Kingdom in 1919 to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities (as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts). Mr. Tesauro also inspired students by telling them how he got involved and how it has changed his life in ways he could never have imagined.

Winter Recitals

Winter Recitals have started this week. Grade 1, 2, and 3 recitals were this week and have been energetic and magical at the same time. We look forward to seeing all Ambrit students show off their talent and hard work over the coming weeks.

Emergenza Freddo – Blanket Collection

We are collecting blankets to take to Caritas from Monday, December 11th to Wednesday, December 18th. The blankets will be given out to the homeless, to help them get through the cold days and freezing nights. There will be a box in the atrium where you could drop off your blankets.

The blankets will need to be clean and in good condition.

Thank you for your help,
The Ambrit Community Service Students

New Adventure Playground

After close to 25 years of service, the time has come for our beloved Adventure Playground to retire.
Work will begin over the winter break period, so our youngest learners will be surprised by the new structure once they return in January!
A small fundraiser has been set up supported by Ambrit alumni and Friends of Ambrit parents association.

If interested in donating, please see the Bursars at the office.

Grade 7 Trip to Brazilian Embassy

On Wednesday, December 4th, our Grade 7 students went to see a theatre performance at the Brazilian Embassy in Piazza Navona.

The show took place in the context of the “Week of Special People: An Opportunity for all” organized by the Consulate General of Brazil in Rome, in collaboration with several Italian NGOs with consolidated experience in implementing projects and working with the themes of inclusion and diversity. The show, “Fiabe a Casaccio” performed by Compagnia Teatrale Tetriamocis (which included performers with disabilities) complements our Italian program and highlights the importance of the inclusion of people with disabilities in contemporary societies.

Basketball Tournament

A Middle School boys basketball team enjoyed participating in an International Schools tournament at AOSR recently.
The team worked hard and collaborated well showing true sportsmanship and team spirit.

Lost and Found

Please be sure to check the Atrium tables for Lost and Found clothing. We ask that all items be labeled clearly with your child’s name to help us reduce the load in the future. Clothes left beyond this date will be donated to charity. All clothes not collected by Wednesday, December 18th, will be donated to the Caritas.
