To recognise and name primary and
secondary colours. To mix two or more colours to make
another and to be able to describe what they have done. To identify an object associated with a

purple, brown, black, white and grey. Children will use particular colours for
a purpose. |

October |
Nursery Rhymes |
Children will join in with familiar and
new rhymes and songs. They will begin to identify and name 2d
shapes through rhymes, i.e. twinkle twinkle little star, humpty dumpty etc They will be confident to try new
activities and speak in a familiar group. |
They learn new nursery rhymes. Nursery rhyme matching game – match
pictures of key points in the rhymes, i.e. baa baa black sheep and the little
boy etc. Complete basic shape recognition sheet
pointing when asked more able to use correct vocab and name independently |

November |
Changing Seasons |
Children will know there are four seasons
and they will be able to name them. They will know the months of each season. Children will become familiar with
activities undertaken in each season, i.e going to the beach in summer,
skiing in winter etc. Children will pack a suitcase suitable
for winter and summer. |
Children can identify seasons through
pictures. They can match clothes or activities to
each season. |

December |
Celebrations and special times |
Children will begin to be familiar with
main holidays, Christmas, Hanukah and Divali. Children will start to develop respect
for their own cultures and beliefs and those of others. |
Children will listen to familiar stories
and traditions linked to each holiday. Children will begin to recognise the importance
of celebrating these holidays and they will be able to say which holiday they
celebrate with their families. |

January |
Transport |
What are some types of transport? What transport do you use to get to
school? What transport could we use to get to
different places? I.e. America, England, Rome centre, Sicily, Africa etc. Children will make a transport model of
their choice. |
Children will name different types of
transportation and sort them appropriately, i.e. those with wheels, those
without, those on land, air, water etc. |

February |
People who help us |
Children will recognise the different
people they are in contact with everyday who help them. They will become familiar with the roles
of different people in their community i.e. police officer, fire fighter,
ambulance driver, shop keeper, hairdresser, post person etc and understand
their role in the community and what would happen if we didnŐt have them. |
Match clothes or objects to the person
i.e. hairbrush and scissors to the hairdresser etc. |

March |
Our bodies our health |
Children will recognise and name the main
parts of the body. Children will look at ways to keep
healthy, good diet and exercise. Children will know the importance of
washing hands after visiting the bathroom, before eating and brushing their
teeth. |
Body part lotto. Body part labelling or matching. Sequencing of pictures for washing hands
and brushing teeth. |

April |
WhatŐs in our garden? -Plants |
Children will be able to recognise what
is in a garden. Children will know that a seed needs
water and light in order to grow. Children will recognise and name the four
main parts of a plant – petal, stem, leaves and root. Children will begin to know that the
roots carry water to the plant. Children will start to recognise the
importance of plants and flowers to insects and the environment. |
What a seed needs sheet. Children will create a flower and cut and
stick the four main labels. Children will each plant a seed and have
responsibility for caring for it to help it grow. Children will document the changes in
their own seed dairy, drawing the changes that have occurred over the month. |

May |
WhatŐs in our garden? – Animals |
Children will recognise and name animals
and insects found in the garden. Children will begin to be aware of the
lifecycle of a frog and caterpillar and name some of the stages. |
Can children sequence three simple
pictures to show life cycle of a caterpillar. Can they draw the three main stages in
the life cycle of a frog? Frogspawn, tadpole frog. |

June |
Holidays and journeys |
Children will discuss their summer plans
and past holidays. Children will recognise items they need
for their trip and pack their own suitcase. Children will begin to recognise and name
some of the objects needed to go on holiday i.e. passport, money etc. |
Can children pack a suitcase suitable for
their holiday? Can children recall previous holidays
either independently or using prompts, pictures, tickets etc sent in by
parents. |
