MEETING TIME -The whole class together on the carpet is a time for:
 
CENTERS -A time to explore, test, play, and reinforce class themes and subjects
 
Carpet toys - Large puzzles, building toys and manipulatives present opportunities to:
  • Develop gross & fine motor skills
  • Enhance concentration
  • Develop social skills/cooperative play
  • Enhance imagination and inventiveness
 
Drama Area -Small furniture and imaginative play materials present opportunities to:
  • Role play

Block Area - Wooden blocks and play accessories (animals, cars, etc.) present opportunities to:
  • Develop hand-eye coordination, perceptual and sensory-motor development skills and large muscle control
  • Reinforces mathematical readiness skills and scientific concepts
  • Develop social skills and inspire artistic expression and imagination
 
Art Area - various table top art materials and painting easel present opportunities to:
  • Develop creativity & self expression
  • Explore colors, textures, shapes & design

Hands-On Table - Puzzles, Play dough, sorting objects, science observations, & open-ended activities present opportunities to:
  • Develop fine motor skills & eye-hand coordination

Writing Table - Various writing tools and materials present opportunities to:
  • Develop an understanding of left to right
  • Enhance fine motor skills
  • Develop hand-eye coordination
 
Library/Listening Center -The cozy corner with colorful children's books presents opportunities to:
  • Learn to look at books properly (hold book upright, turn pages left to right, etc.)
  • Develop imagination and love for reading
  • Learn to handle books carefully
  • Build on attention span and listening skills while listening to books on tape
 
Sensory table - Water, sand, rice and other sensory materials presents opportunities to:
  • Develop fine motor control
  • Develop eye-hand coordination
  • Sharpen sense of touch
