Physical Education in Early Childhood

Physical Education is a required subject for all levels nursery through grade 8.  The overall goal of the program is to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to enjoy a physically active, healthy lifestyle.
 
At the Early Childhood level, students in Nursery through Prep meet three a week for thirty minutes and Grade 1 meets twice a week for thirty minutes.  The development of efficient gross and fine motor skills are emphasized as students take part in developmentally appropriate activities.  Students are also engaged in activities that develop basic levels of strength, endurance, and flexibility. In addition, students learn to work safely in group and individual movement settings as they participate in physical activities that are both challenging and enjoyable.
 
Aims: As a result of participating in the AMBRIT Physical Education Program students will be: 
  • Self-Directed and Responsible Learners who recognize their limits and attempt to expand those limits in all areas of physical education.
  • Team Players and Workers who can interact positively, cooperatively and productively with each other.
  • Efficient and Effective Movers who possess knowledge, skills and fitness level to lead a physically active and healthy lifestyle.
  • Respectful and Confident Performers who are confident in their own abilities and respect differences and similarities among individuals.
  • Critical Thinkers who can work together or individually to solve problems.
