Ambrit Middle School Newsletter – October 2019

Dear Middle School Parents,

as we move towards the end of our first month of school I wanted to update you on some news from the Middle School. We have a busy month ahead of us with trips to the Globe Theatre, Padua and Maker Faire and the parent-teacher conferences later this month. This year in order to facilitate the parent-teacher conferences we will be splitting MS in two moments: Grade 6 and 7 on the 23rd of October (the school will be closed) and Grade 8 on the 16th of October from 14:00 to 17:00. We will send out specific times later this week.

Kind regards,
Giovanni Piccolo

Grade 8 meetings will be held on Wednesday, October 16 from 14-17.

Romeo and Juliet

On Thursday, October 10 our Grade 7 and 8 students will attend a fantastic original language performance of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet at Villa Borghese’s Globe Theatre.

Hummustown

In view of last year’s successful collaboration with the Syrian Cooperative, Hummustown,  which aims to provide a dignified job to Syrian refugees in Rome (click Hummustown to learn more about this cooperative), we would like to extend this further this year, following a different format though.

Parents who wish to enroll their Middle School child(ren) in Hummustown’s Friday lunches can do so by filling in the attached form. In order to ensure the smooth operation during these Lunches on Friday, only the students whose names will be included in the list will be served. You can choose one of the three packages offered in the form. This is only available to MS students.

FROM THE MYP COORDINATOR

MYP Parent Workshop

You are invited to the MYP workshop on Monday, October 14 from 9:00-10:15 at the Atrium Library to learn more about the Middle Years Programme. This workshops will allow you to learn about, experience and ask questions about our approach to teaching and learning in Middle School.

MYP Central

On the school website, the Middle School has published a dedicated link to ‘MS Curriculum’ within the Parent Portal named MYP Central. This link has been designed to supply parents with important and fundamental information about the International Baccalaureate, the Middle Years Programme, Subject Groups, and the Italian State Exam Stream for all three years. MYP Central will become an invaluable tool as you navigate your journey through the Middle Years Programme at AMBRIT.

Mobile Phones

In the Middle School, students may bring mobile phones to school but these must be switched off while at school and may be turned on once students leave through the front gate. While at school phones should be locked in student cubbies. Any student caught using a mobile phone during school hours will have it confiscated and kept in the Principal’s office for the day.

Dress Code

A reminder about our student dress code. Please take a moment to review our expectations. Students should wear clean neat clothes, avoiding ripped jeans, short shorts, and any vulgar or inappropriate texts or images on t-shirts and sweaters.

Students walking home on their own

Students over the age of 12 may leave the school on their own at the end of the day provided parents have completed a Liberatoria giving them permission. Students with siblings may also walk home together. Please contact Matteo (matteo.nardin@ambrit-rome.com) in the office if you have any questions.
